Green Star Airtightness Design Support + Testing Access

If you're working on a Green Star project and want airtightness to be clear (and buildable), this is a simple pathway to get extra design support and independent testing — with the added benefit of making real projects available for supervised trainee learning.

What you get

Free design-stage support

  • A practical airtightness strategy for your project (test boundary, target, risks, sequencing)

  • Targeted review of high-risk details and penetrations

  • A time-boxed boundary decision pathway so things don't drag on

On-site support + testing (priced)

  • Site meetings (no testing): $2,500/day + GST

  • Sample testing (1 fan): $3,000/day + GST

  • Full testing (up to 4 fans): $5,000 for day 1 + GST, then $1,500/day + GST for additional days

  • If more equipment is needed, we'll confirm any additional fees once the test plan is locked in.

How it works

  1. Register your interest – fill in the short form below to let us know you're keen.

  2. We check suitability – we'll review your project details and confirm it qualifies for the Green Star pathway.

  3. We onboard you – you'll receive a test plan template and checklist to prepare your site.

  4. We deliver the test – our accredited testers come to site and carry out the airtightness test.

  5. You receive your report – a full ATTMA-compliant test report, ready for your Green Star submission.

Trainees and meetings

You decide how involved trainees are:

  • BEO-only (no trainees in meetings)

  • Observer-only (trainees attend, BEO speaks)

  • Active participation (1–2 named trainees can answer technical questions when invited)

BEO remains responsible for advice, methodology, supervision, and report sign-off.

Confidentiality options

This programme is designed to work for both open and sensitive projects.

  • External publication: you choose whether anything is used publicly (most projects choose “no public case study”).

  • Internal access for training: if you need strict confidentiality, you can keep design support free by providing your own redacted/de-identified extracts for our internal review. That keeps admin low and control in your hands.

Important notes

  • NZGBC’s role is facilitation and promotion of the opportunity.

  • Technical services and testing are delivered by BEO under contract directly with the project team.

  • Airtightness outcomes depend on design, build quality, and site readiness — we’ll help you plan it properly, but remediation remains the contractor’s scope.

FAQ

Is the design support really free?

Yes. The design-stage support outlined above is free for suitable projects. Any on-site support or testing is priced as shown.

Do we need to commit to testing to get design support?

No. You can do design support only, or add testing later.

Can we exclude trainees entirely?

Yes — choose BEO-only and we keep trainees out of meetings.

What if our project is confidential?

You can keep it tight. No external publication unless you explicitly approve it. For internal training access, you can provide de-identified extracts so you stay in control.

How many fans will we need?

Use the Fan Estimator for an early indication. We’ll confirm the final plan once the boundary and staging are locked in.

Who holds the contract?

BEO contracts directly with the project team for any paid services (and delivers all technical outputs).
